Jackie Wade Smith

With sadness we report the passing of Mr. Jackie Wade Smith on Tuesday evening, October 25, 2016, at Gordon Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Statesville at the age of 58 following a months-long battle with cancer.

He was born in Welch, West Virginia, on August 27, 1958, the son of Charlotte Patricia Ann McCoy Smith of Statesville and the late James Darrell Smith. He was the husband of Marlene Blankenship Smith and they had been married for almost 37 years. They had been residents of Statesville since 1998.  While in West Virginia, Jackie had worked as a coal miner. He then became an electrician.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Brandy Machell Smith and a son, Joshua Edward Smith, both of Statesville; three brothers: Willis Joseph Smith (Tina) of Alabama, Lawrence Wayne Smith (David) of Florida, and Kelly Scott Smith (Michelle) of Statesville; one sister, Norma Maxine Smith of Statesville; and four grandchildren: Veronica Rankin, Lilie Smith, Elizabeth Rankin and McKenzie Warren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, James Smith.

In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned and his cremains will be returned to his home state and scattered in the West Virginia Mountains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Reavis Funeral Home, PO Box 1201, Statesville, NC 28687 to help offset final expenses.
