Dorman Durant Little

Dorman Durant Little, 78, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Iredell Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. He was a native and lifelong resident of Iredell County, born January 31, 1938, and the son of the late Clarence A. Little and Jessie Mae Eidson Little. He previously lived on Jo Monni Loop but health conditions made it necessary for him to relocate to the Brian Center in recent years.  

Dorman graduated from Scots High School and sometime thereafter he volunteered for military service with the United States Army. After basic training where he earned an Expert Rifle Badge, he went on to graduate from the US Army Aviation School and the Basic Airborne School where he earned a Parachutist Badge. He was also trained in aircraft maintenance and acquired skills in single engine aircraft mechanics. After serving on active duty for three years, he was transferred to the US Army Reserves and later received an Honorable Discharge. His mechanical skills continued in civilian life. He worked for a number of years for Thomas & Howard Company, a wholesale grocer, maintaining their fleet of trucks. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Givens Little, his second wife, Mildred Little, an infant daughter, Christina, and several siblings. 

At his request, no services are planned. His cremains will be laid to rest at the foot of his father’s grave in Oakwood Cemetery as he had requested. He will long be remembered by a number of friends and family.
