Vallie Chen Obituary

Vallie Parker Chen, 83, of Stony Point, passed away to be with the Lord on April 19, 2021. She was born on January 14, 1938 to the late Robert Asbury Parker and Lillian McClain Parker.

Vallie grew up in Stony Point, NC where she faithfully attended Third Creek Baptist Church.  After graduating from Happy Plains High School, she attended Winston Salem State University (Formally Winston Salem Teachers College) where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

Following her employment as a staff Register Nurse at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Vallie relocated to the New Jersey/ New York area and began her 36-year career at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Medical Center located in New York City as a Nursing Administrator.  Along with her career responsibilities, Vallie was a member of several professional nursing organizations and maintained her nursing license credentials for the States of New York, New Jersey and North Carolina.  During this time Vallie met and married Keith Chen with whom she raised their two daughters in the suburbs of New Jersey.  After retirement from Nursing, Vallie returned home to Stony Point, NC where she lived an active life through numerous church and civic activities.  

Along with her parents, Vallie was preceded in death by her husband Keith O. Chen, brothers, Haven Parker, Artrue Parker, Charles Benjamin Parker, Robert Parker, Fred Parker, Willie Eugene Parker, Tallie Parker, and sisters, Martha Parker Connor and Margaret Parker Simmons.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Spring (Douglas) Strickland, Patricia Chen of Teaneck, New Jersey, Four grandchildren; Douglas Strickland Jr., Taylor Strickland, Miles Strickland, and Zachary Strickland of Teaneck New Jersey; brothers, Farley (Agnes) Parker, Alonzo Dale (Bertha) Parker, sisters; Betty Parker Banks and Carrie Parker Pulley all of Stony Point, NC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and friends.

A memorial service to commemorate her blessed and wonderful life is being planned for limited family and friends at Third Creek Baptist Church, Stony Point NC on May 29, 2021.
