Godene “Jean” Allen, 83, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Rosewood Assisted Living Center in Harmony where she had been a resident for several years due to declining health issues. Born in the beautiful Bluegrass State of Kentucky on October 25, 1934, she was the youngest of seven children born to the late Horace and Frankie Napier Hensley.
Jean was twice married. First to the late Bob Allen and then to the late Melvin Leo Bateman. In addition to being a homemaker for her family, she worked in the restaurant and food service industry, both in Kentucky and in North Carolina. She was known for her delicious donuts at Mister Donut in Salisbury.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Smith (Keith) of Irvine, KY, Dorothy Phoenix (Michael) of Madison, NC, Leo Bateman (Dalene) of Goshen, IN, Ordway Allen (Lucy) and Orlean Allen; seven grandchildren: David Frazier, Mary Ellen Mullins, Cory, Janelle and Austin Bateman, Amanda and Carmella Allen; plus three great grandchildren: Emiree, Addalyn and Kinsley.
The family will have a private graveside service on Saturday, October 27th, at 2:00 PM at Adam Mann Cemetery in Lambric, Kentucky.
The care of Mrs. Allen has been entrusted to Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville.
