Thomas Dewey Vanhoy

Mr. Tommy D. Vanhoy, 78, of Harmony, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018. Mr. Vanhoy was born in Yadkin County on February 10, 1939, the son of the late Willie Parks and Bessie Ireland Vanhoy. He was a graduate of Union Grove High School, class of 1959. He was married to Glenda Lou Gentle on June 11, 1960.

Mr. Vanhoy was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church and loved his church family dearly. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Uniglass Industries of Statesville. His greatest joys in his life was his love for his Savior Jesus Christ and his family. He loved going to old motor shows and gardening.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Hubert, Hobert and Johnny Vanhoy; two sisters, Georgia Vanhoy and Jeanette Myers. In addition to his wife Glenda, he is survived by one son, Clay Vanhoy (Rita) of Statesville; three daughters, Sherry Vanhoy of Harmony, Melissa Billings (Scott) of Traphill and Kristal Vanhoy (BJ) of Lansing; one brother Bill Vanhoy of Yadkinville; one sister, Bessie Lou Price of Salisbury; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Harmony Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Harmony Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gordon Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
