Ruth "Irene" (Sharpe) Coleman

Irene Coleman, 73, passed away at her home Saturday evening, May 26, 2018, surrounded by her family. A native of Iredell County, she was born Ruth Irene Sharpe on February 1, 1945, to the late Noel “Dent” Sharpe and Margaret Ruth Johnson Sharpe. On May 7, 1965, she married Roger Lee Coleman and they had just observed their 53rd anniversary.

Irene graduated from Union Grove High School. In addition to being a good wife and mother, she worked with her family in the poultry business, Coleman Family Farms. As long as her health permitted, she was a faithful member of Winthrop Friends Meeting where she assisted in many activities. She also served as a “Pink Lady” at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Roger; one daughter, Robin Hansel (Ken) of Olin; two sons, Mark Coleman (Hope) of Harmony and Scott Coleman (Amanda) of Olin; two brothers, Jerry Sharpe (Freda) of Harmony and Dennis Sharpe (Lesa) of Union Grove; five sisters: Polly and Esther Sharpe, Joy Baugus (Wendell), Sharon Davis (Maxie) and Ramona Roberts (Carl), all of Harmony; and two grandchildren, Wyatt and Zakary Coleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Scott Coleman, and three brothers: J.D., Noel and William Sharpe.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Winthrop Friends Meeting at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 30, officiated by Pastor Harold Salmons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Mark Coleman, Scott Coleman, Jonathan Baugus, Michael Sharpe, John Sharpe, James Prevette, J.D. Osborne, Kevin Osborne and Derek Osborne.
