Robert Eugene Russell, Sr., 86, passed away at his home Thursday, August 16, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Richmond County, NC, on December 3, 1931, the son of the late J.V. and Maggie McDonald Russell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Russell, a sister, Frances Blagg, and a grandson, Jamie R. Dishman.

He leaves behind his cherished children, Robert E. Russell, Jr., Kelly and Lynn Russell, all of Statesville; a sister, Ruby White, and nephew, Michael White, both of Rockingham, NC; and a long-time friend, Stanley Beard, who was like a step-son. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Tammy Cottle, Angie Dishman and Nicholas Davis; plus his great grandchildren: Tyler & Brandon Perrusquia, Carlie Abernathy, Piper Cotle, Zachary, Kayden and Jaydee Dishman.

Mr. Russell was a retired production operator at Hoechst-Celanese with 27 ½ years’ service. He was also a dedicated Duke fan.

At his request, there will be no public services.
