Mary Helen Moore

Mary Helen Moore passed peacefully into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Sunday evening, May 20, 2018, from Jurneys of Statesville where she had been a resident for more than two years. She had celebrated her 80th birthday on May 8th. She was the last surviving child of the late Roy Edward Moore and Fannie Weaner Moore.

Miss Moore was a native of Iredell County and a graduate of Union Grove High School. She had been a long-time, faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she was active as long as her health permitted. During her working years, she worked at the Harmony Café and also served at Olin Village Assisted Living Center (formerly Jurneys of Olin). She enjoyed watching things grow, so gardening was one of her pastimes. But she especially loved reading her Bible which she cherished and kept close by at all times.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Johnie, Clay and Bill Moore. Although she had no immediate family surviving, she will be greatly missed by a special cousin, Bill Weaner, her neighbor and devoted friend whom she referred to as a sister, Amelia Walker, and her many friends from church, Jurneys and elsewhere. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

The body will lie in state during a visitation period on Thursday, May 24, from 11:00 until 12:00 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00 noon officiated by her pastor, Rev. David Childress, and assisted by Rev. Byron Allison and Rev. Glenn Dancy III. She will be laid to rest beside her mother in the church cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School Class, “The Fellowship Class.” Active pallbearers will be Wayne Hill, Bill Walker, Earl Hendrix, David Sloan, David Annas and Billy Weaner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Mary Helen’s life may be directed to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 145 Mt. Vernon Church Rd., Olin, NC 28660.
