Mary Elizabeth Covington

Mary Elizabeth “Cissie” Covington, 74, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the Harris Hospice Center of Novant-Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. “Cissie” was the name that stuck when her brother began calling her that as a child. She was born in Texas on December 9, 1943, the daughter of the late Elton and Cora (Norrell) Castlebury. She graduated from Lubbock (TX) High School and went on to obtain an Associate Degree from Draughn’s Business College in Texas.

“Cissie” began a successful 30-year career with the Social Security Administration while still in Texas. After transferring to North Carolina, she worked in several locations and concluded her career as a Field Service Supervisor in the Statesville office. Following her retirement, she enjoyed working in her plants and flowers and also enjoyed acquiring “stuff” to add to her collections.

Remaining to cherish her memory are two sons, Patrick Covington (Rachael) of Huntersville and Chris Covington (Pela) of Sydney, Australia; one brother, David Castlebury of Manila, Philippines; and two granddaughters, Hailey and Everly.

The visitation will be from 12:30 until 2:00 PM Monday, November 5, at Reavis Funeral Home, 318 Davie Avenue, Statesville. A Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at 2:30 PM Monday at which time she will be laid to rest beside her mother.
