Leona Campbell Newman went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the age of 101. She had been a resident of Brookdale-Peachtree Senior Living Center for several years. Born in Iredell County on April 21, 1916, she was the last surviving of the eight children born to the late James A. and Della Everidge Campbell. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were five brothers: Joseph, Claude, Thomas, Clifton and James Campbell; and two sisters, Hazel Campbell and Nettie B. Campbell.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 14, at Iredell Memorial Park with Rev. Marvin Call officiating.
During her career, Mrs. Newman worked in the spinning department in the textile industry. She had been active in her church and she and her late sister, Nettie, were very close. They shared living quarters for a number of years. She leaves behind four generations of nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
