Joseph Arthur Riccio, 74, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House following a three-year battle with cancer. He was born June 2, 1944, in Sprague, Connecticut, the son of the late Harry and Lena Seltzer Riccio. After high school, Joseph served three years in the United States Navy.
For more than 20 years, his primary occupation was that of a chef and baker in the restaurants and casinos around Las Vegas. After he moved to North Carolina about 20 years ago, he worked in the construction trade. He was also a frequent trader and enjoyed the flea market on US Hwy. 21. Trips to the beach and to the mountains were equally fun for him. Another enjoyment he had was playing poker (a skill he perhaps groomed while living in Las Vegas), so there were trips to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort from time to time.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Amparo (Vasquez Duque) Riccio, a step-son, Andres Cardona and a step-daughter, Elizabet Cardona, all of the home, and a number of other step-children. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, plus many other family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, August 3, at Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville (318 Davie Avenue) officiated by Rev. Clark Paquette. A time of visitation will follow the service.
