In the early morning hours of Friday, March 2, 2018, Hazel Elaine (Lampros) Risinger answered the call of her Lord at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC, just 10 days prior to her 89th birthday. Born March 12, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the only daughter of the late Theodore and Hazel (Simmerman) Lampros. She was the widow of the late Joseph Risinger to whom she had been married for 56 years at the time of his passing in 2007. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James, who was killed in World War II.
Mrs. Risinger obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and continued her education at Long Beach State (now California State University, Long Beach) where she obtained her Master’s Degree. She enjoyed a career as a writer and news reporter for the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the Orange County Evening News. During her career, she wrote some books and also enjoyed traveling. She visited Greece where she had family connections, but her real joy was in her children and grandchildren. Before moving to North Carolina to be nearer her family, she had been an active member of the United Methodist Church in Long Beach.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her two sons, Scott Risinger and wife, Laurie, of Mooresville, NC, and Mark Risinger and wife, Laura, of Salida, CO; plus five beloved grandchildren: Jason, Travis, Nicole, Matthew and Ashley.
Services have been scheduled for 11:30 AM Thursday, March 8, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA, where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville. Condolences may be posted online at www.reavisfhstatesville.com.
