Dorothy M. Misfeldt

Dorothy Beatrice Mayes Misfeldt, 93, passed away peacefully at the home she shared with her nephew, Terry Lee Poole and his wife, Sarah, Sunday, February 19, 2017. She was a native of the Harmony community, the daughter of the late Herbert “H.R.” Mayes and Lola Benfield Mayes. She was the widow of Edwin Misfeldt. Others preceding her in death included a step-son, Edwin “Butch” Misfeldt, Jr. and three sisters and three brothers.

“Dot” or “Dottie”, as she was known by friends, graduated from Harmony High School. She worked for Stimpson Hosiery Mills in Statesville for a period of time. She then moved from Iredell County to Marietta, GA, a number of years ago where she met and married her husband, Edwin, who was an Army veteran and had worked on the Panama Canal. During her years in Georgia, she worked for an insurance company and was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and her church. She later returned to Iredell County where she rekindled old friendships and made many new ones. 

She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Madelyn Corder (Glen) and Margaret Misfeldt, all of Orlando, FL, plus many special nieces, nephews and friends.  

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, at Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Chaplain Sharon Snow. The body will lie in state at Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville until the time of service. A special thanks is extended to Hospice of Iredell County for their care of Mrs. Misfeldt.
