Billie Jean (Battle) Turpen, 89, completed her earthly journey Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC, following a period of declining health. She was a native of Lawrenceburg, TN, born June 19, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles Battle and Hazel Augusta Roberts Battle. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Battle, and a sister, Charlene Battle.
Her memory will be cherished by her beloved husband, Robert Allen Turpen; one daughter, Robyn Annette Turpen of Statesville; one son, Richard Allen Turpen and wife, Nancy Sutton Turpen, of Birmingham, AL; and two grandchildren, Katherine Grace Turpen and Samuel Joseph Turpen.
Mrs. Turpen and her husband moved to Statesville about six years ago to be near their daughter, Robyn. Her career was primarily that of a homemaker for her family. While living in Nashville, TN, she had also served as a tour guide, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Prior to declining health, she had been active in the Methodist Church.
At her request, there will be no public services. Her cremains will be laid to rest at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Nashville.
