Barbara Ann (York) Johnson, 64, of Cornwall Road in Harmony, went home to be with her Lord Friday evening, August 3, 2018, from Gordon Hospice House following a long illness.
Barbara was born in Iredell County on July 11, 1954, to the late Howard Emory York and Nancy “Oline” Rash York. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church in Yadkinville.
She graduated from North Iredell High School and worked in the spinning department of J.P. Stevens Textiles for more than 30 years until the plant closed. She then returned to school and obtained an Associate Degree from Mitchell Community College, after which she became a CNA and cared for others.
On November 19, 1977, she married William “Dwight” Johnson, who survives. She is also survived by two sons, David Johnson of Denver, NC, and Rodney Johnson (Alisha) of Harmony; three grandchildren: Madison Johnson of Mocksville, Lucas Johnson of Harmony, and another grandson due in September; plus one loving brother, Emory York (Patsy) of Knightdale, NC; one nephew, Lynn York (Carol) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and one niece, Lisa Winslow (Chad) of Wendell, NC.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a loving sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Tommy Newman.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 7, at Houstonville Baptist Church in Harmony. The funeral service will be at the church at 3:00 PM Wednesday with Rev. Dr. Jon Bowman and Bro. George Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Springs Church Cemetery on Houstonville Road.
