Anna Faye (Moore) Rhyne

Anna Moore Rhyne, 90, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018. Born Aug. 8, 1928, Anna was the daughter of Julian S. and Ida Sloan Moore. On March 13, 1948, she married Raeford Rhyne. Anna grew up in the Harmony community and graduated Harmony High School.

Anna had a long career that included working as a secretary for JC Penney's warehouse and helping run Rhyne's Grocery with family in the 1950s and 1960s. After she and husband, Raeford, invited the Balloon Works to move to the Rhyne's property in the 1970s, Anna proudly worked as a secretary with the group. Later she worked with her family at R. Raeford Rhyne Realty in Statesville. Never one to sit idly by while others had all the fun, Anna and Raeford had their own hot air balloon built in 1980 and loved participating in balloon rallies and sharing flights with friends and family. Later in life, Anna was a regular at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock. She became good friends with the staff at Tweetsie and enjoyed her nickname "The Lady in Red," a nod to her signature style.

Anna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raeford; as well as her parents; and siblings, Mabel Pharr Geisler, Parks Moore, Hoyt Moore, Bill Moore, and Clint Moore. Survivors include her son, Jerry Rhyne and wife, Elaine, of Statesville; two grandchildren, Curtis Rhyne and wife, Ansley, of Washington, D.C., and Diana Rhyne of Raleigh; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life for all of Anna's family and friends will be held at the Rhyne Aerodrome, 121 Cattlemans Rd., in Statesville, Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. The family will begin gathering to greet friends at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 1825 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
