Mrs. Rebecca Joan Dixon, 82, of Woodleaf, NC, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at home from complications with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in 1934 to the late Josh and Rebecca Cranford.
She was a graduate of Woodleaf High School and Salisbury Business School. She worked as a legal secretary in Statesville, as secretary for the North Carolina State Assembly and gift shop manager for the Toledo, Ohio, Zoo. Joan was an active member of Maumee United Methodist Church in Maumee, Ohio, for 37 years and a member of South River United Methodist Church of Woodleaf since 2000.
Joan was very creative and loved making beautiful items for the Maumee Church Bazaar.
She had an infectious personality, contagious laugh and beautiful smile.
She was also preceded in death by her brother James Edward Cranford who died in an accident in 1959. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Rodney M. Dixon; daughters Patricia Huckaba (Philip) of Perrysburg, Ohio, Lori Hamlett of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Traci Miller (Robert) of Holland, Ohio. Also surviving are grandchildren Vincent Dauer (Bridget), Rebekah Courtney (Michael), Bethany Leisure (Ryan), Rachel Primeau (Matt), Alex Miller (Elisha), Olivia Miller, Hannah Hamlett, Joshua Hamlett; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 3, at South River United Methodist Church with visitation from 2-3:00 pm prior to the service. A private burial will occur at another time.
