Pearl L. Holland Shoemaker, 73, completed her earthly journey at Gordon Hospice House Thursday, July 21, 2016. She was a native and lifelong resident of Iredell County, born June 21, 1943, to the late Finnis Holland and Pansy Mae Anderson Holland. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Worley and Dorothy Eldridge, and one grandson, Zachary Bowen.
Pearl attended Iredell High School and later married the late Dwight Shoemaker who died in 2005. She was primarily a homemaker and caregiver for her family. She had attended Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to gospel preaching on TV and gospel music. She loved her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren, and as long as her sight permitted she worked crossword puzzles. Other favorite things included cream gravy and biscuits and she could eat a whole watermelon at one sitting.
Remaining to cherish her memory are daughters Tammy Shumaker of Taylorsville and Amy Shoemaker of Statesville; sons, Ricky Holland and wife, Jody, of Statesville and Dwight Shoemaker, Jr. of Pinnacle, NC; one sister, Sue Weaver of Mooresville; nine grandchildren: Ashley Holland Lewis, Nick Lackey, Christy Holland, Harley Poole, Kim Holland, Tracy Holland Richie, Tabby Holland, Cassie Holland, and Tyler Bowen; plus ten great grandchildren: James Barnett, Micah Poole, Miranda Berryman, Emily Lewis, Noah, Bentley, and Aubrey Poole, Willow Lackey, Christopher Poole and McKenzie Tilley.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday, July 22, at Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 23, at Taylor Springs Baptist Church cemetery officiated by Rev. Larry Duffer.
