Madison Reese Matthews

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Madison Reese Matthews, age 21, on Saturday, February 17, 2018, following a courageous year-long battle with ovarian cancer. Madison, known to many of her family and friends as “Maddie”, was born in Santa Clara, California, on June 7, 1996, the daughter of Tim and Pam Matthews.

After moving to North Carolina, she attended North Iredell High School. Despite her diagnosis and struggle with cancer, “Maddie” maintained a positive and upbeat attitude throughout. She has been described as “selfless”, always thinking of and concerned about others. Words like “free-spirited” and “independent” have also been used to describe her personality. She loved horses. She loved music. And she loved her dog, Roscoe, who she often called “Bubba”.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her mother, Pam Dancisin Matthews of Olin; her father and step-mother, Tim and Karen Matthews of Fuquay Varina, NC; her boyfriend, Devon Hutcheson of Concord; one brother, Chase Matthews of Mooresville; her step-brother, Tyler; her maternal grandmother, Brunhilde Dancisin of Olin; uncles, David and Mike Dancisin; aunt, Pat Dancisin; cousins: Timothy, Miranda and Amanda Dancisin; plus other family and many friends who were fortunate to have known her. Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, William and Joyce Matthews, and her maternal grandfather, Francis Dancisin.

There will be a gathering of family & friends to celebrate Maddie's life from 3:00 until 7:00 PM Saturday, March 10, at the home at 1711 Jennings Road, Olin, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to help offset final expenses be sent to Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville, PO Box 1201, Statesville, NC 28687 (704-873-4359).
