Gary Lynn Richards

Gary Lynn Richards, 62, passed away at Gordon Hospice Home Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Gary was a native of Athens, Texas, but had lived in the Harmony community for more than 15 years.

Prior to becoming disabled, he worked in the agriculture and construction industries. He was an outdoorsman who never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need....hitchhikers, stranded motorists and others. His hands were seldom idle and he “tinkered” with anything that needed fixing. There was a soft spot in his heart for animals, especially stray dogs.  

Preceding him in death were his parents, Donald and Alline Pyle Richards, his wife and mother of his children, Linda Richards, a sister, Gina Hawes, and his pet companion of 13 years, “Poochie”.

His memory will be cherished by two daughters, Cassie Lane (Francis Coleman, Jr.) of Union Grove and Nikki Richards (Charles Ballard, Jr.) of Statesville; a granddaughter, Alexis Coleman; and three siblings: Nolan Richards, Marcia Pidwell and Donna Lortv, all of Texas.

There will be a memorial gathering of friends and family at the Harmony Community Center Sunday, August 7, beginning at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to help offset final expenses are requested to be sent to Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville, P. O. Box 1201, Statesville, NC 28687.
