Emory Bruce Harmon, 62, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. He was a native of Avery County, born October 3, 1954, the son of Thelma Bumgarner Harmon of Statesville and the late James Leroy Harmon. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Leroy Harmon.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice Bruce Harmon; two daughters, Pamela Wurtz (Joseph) of Bremerton, WA, and Kristina Kunkle (Jeffrey) of Dallas, NC; one brother, Jimmy Harmon (Barbara) of Statesville; one sister, Kay Flouton (Howard) of Gastonia; and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kunkle and Zachary Wurtz.
A 1973 graduate of Statesville Senior High School, he also obtained an Associate Degree from Mitchell Community College and honorably served his country in the US Army. He was a computer engineer and had been employed with Auction Edge for some 20 years. He was an active and valued member of Triplett United Methodist Church where he has been described as having a servant’s heart. He served in numerous capacities to include being a lay leader, web designer, working with the security detail and with the Methodist Men, just to name a few. He also enjoyed belonging to the Statesville Gun Club.
The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center at Triplett UMC from 1:00 until 2:45 PM Friday, September 1. The Celebration of Life Service will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Rick Auten officiating. Interment will military honors and a tribute by the Patriot Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
In recognition of his love and devotion to his church, the family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be directed to Triplett UMC, 838 Mazeppa Rd., Mooresville, NC 28115.
